Wafer Works Corp. to Set up an 8-inch Wafer Fab in Henan

Taiwan-based silicon wafer supplier Wafer Works Corporation announced to set up an 8-inch silicon wafer factory in Henan, China, by selling new shares worth 700 million RMB (US$100.7 million; US$=6.95 RMB) of its Shanghai subsidiary to a Henan-based investment fund, reported Commercial Times on December 19. After the capital expansion, the Chinese investment fund will control a 37.6% stake in Wafer Works (Shanghai) Corporation, while the parent company will still hold 60.47%. The new plant is expected to reach the capacity of 50,000 units of wafers per month by 2018, while ramping up to 200,000 in 2019.
